The game has that title screen with both that and Japanese spelling, and I would really doubt that the game shows the english version in japan. The game is most definetaly region locked.

As to my knowledge, the only hack that exists is modifying the filenames in the iso so it will load the file with the jap SCD music instead of the USA one, so no, that will not unlock Bare Knuckle.

The ADX files used in the museum can be easily copied out once you mount the ps2 iso with daemon. The Sonic CD ones can be extracted with sonicblurs cvm2iso and a simple afs extractor, and even then its just the redbook audio from the mega cd games + looping ADXs for the Past tracks. Sonic R does not use ADX. Sonic Fighters can be extracted with cvm2iso. the title screen, manual, history, etc ADX files are simply there and you just have to copy them out of the folder too.

I'm trying to extract the manuals and the art gallery right now, we might end up with some nice shit.

Uh, no. Nobody ever said that.

It's very likely that they were removed, they did extra file removal with Sonic Heroes too in order to make everything fit. Removing the Japanese Sonic CD music and the extra Genesis games would just barely give them enough room for everything. (They might need to downsample the videos too) The Japanese gamecube version of Gems collection does not default to English like the PS2 one does, and nobody has been able to even get ahold of the US version yet. It only shipped today, and I haven't heard of a single store in the US that has it yet. My local EBgames expects copies of it tomorrow. In about 24 hours from now, we'll know what got the cut. :-P

They can fit everything on the disc by downsampling the audio like they did with Heroes (and it really isn't noticable at all because it get's upsampled again before output anyway) but I dont think they'd do that when it's easier to strip files out. I hope they did do this though because I really want to go buy this and hack codes for the unaccessable stuff. :-P

I'd imagine that they will physically remove the japanese release-only files and fix up the game so you can't load it in jap mode.

Then again this is Sega.

Doesn't surprize me. Most the multiplatform xbox games I've looked at have "ps2" folders with smaller versions of the files.

from the PVM files you can extract 6 PVR textures, on which you should use sonicblurs above tool to convert them to bitmaps (it will lose the alpha channel, but I doubt that any of the pics have anything there), then you just have to paste the 256x256 textures together into one image.

If anyone knows a tool that would auto paste them together, that would be pretty kickass.

No, they just use middleware developement tools.

But I wouldn't be surprised if they just release Sonic Gems Collection Plus 3 months later with god knows what extras on them.

I'm wondering... Why don't we get these extra games that the Japanese version gets? I mean, even if some of the games are unreleased, we can still just play them... It wouldn't kill them to make a few translations or something for unreleased games... Then again this is SEGA and Sonic Team... =P
