here are the roms from the MDROM_JP directory. The strange stuff is that it doesn't just have bare knuckle 1-2-3, vectorman 1-2 and bonanza bros on it, but the original mega collection shit too. prolly cause of compression shit, I dunno. Anyway, someone make a decompressor for them so we can check if theres any undumped shit among them.

http://evilboris.sonic-cult.net/MDROM_JP.rar

sonic cd is in a huge tard CVM file so I can't really do shit about that one atm. it uses ADX tho. It would be fun to extract them just for the sake of having them looping, IF they at least added that to them.

On the other hand, I don't see any ADX stuff in the Sonic R directory...

ok, that CVM file stores the music in AFS containers (so they are ADX files inside AFS files inside a CVM file). yay. However this makes it relatively easy to extract.

btw, there are also two afs files - BGM_JP.AFS and BGM_US.AFS. So Sega is up to something with this motherfucker. You can probably change music via an unlockable or smthing.

don't tear it apart so quickly, it will spoil all the surprises ;_; I'm gonna have to avoid a few of these posts I think.

seriously, I haven't been this happy about playing a Sonic game in years

EDIT: btw, I think the SCD bgm did loop... I dont remember hearing any stop and restart when I was playing, unless I wsa just too engrossed.

the US music is there and was recorded by a tard. There's a split sec bs at the end of each track, which is none other then the beginning of the next track. Sega doesn't know zip about extracting CD audio it seems, this is a common ripping problem.

Also, the full 3min ver of Sonic Boom isn't there. They changed it to the "time warp" effect track.

the past music is also there in both set of AFS files, even though they are the crc exactly the same. lazy programmers.

I'll see if I can extract the hires movies.

ok, I got most of the movies out. If Spazpaimon wants to up them on the cult, I can whip up the MPEGs or reencode them to xvid (the latter might be a better solution because the mpegs are interlaced MPEG2 which prolly not everyone could run fine)

the movies use the original japanese music by the way.

Am I the only one who sees that that frame is blended with another slightly (most likely the previous one)?

try doing a screencap of a DVD.

Are the games stored as binary roms? Could they be dumped?

They are using the same system that Mega Collection. To prevent straight dumping, they are compressed in a wierd ass format. I don't know if anyone can decompress those, but here are the files nevertheless. I think someone managed to extract them from the Gamecube memory using some debugging tool or memory dumper, but I got no clue on that subject.

So yes and no. They use the binary roms, but encrypted in some format, so unless someone cracks that encryption, the only way to dump them is to do a memory dump of the PS2 while it has them loaded.

Looks just fine, and there was motion in that scene. All of my DVDs are fine, and the only instance of blended frames I've heard of are when they've gone through a shitty conversion (i.e. they take the telecined source and blend frames/fields). Why a codec would result in blended frames is beyond me anyway.

EDIT: I just examined the video someone ripped ages ago from the previous Mega collection (or something like that, it's definitly the remastered one) and that is FULL of extremely obvious blends. Even if MPEG2 does blend, it's not THAT obvious when you go through frame by frame. This is only the ending though, the opening is fine.

They sped up the ending animation for whatever reason in Sonic Mega Collection. I think it was to fit both sequences in together (good and bad end) with the short song length. Anyways, usually in cel animation it's common to see some inbetween ghost frames for fast action sequences and stuff.

The japanese versions set to (PS2 reported only for now) the US region for the game data for some oddball reason.

The videos are in cri sofdec, which can grab music out of ADX files. Most likely it just uses some other adx files music. the sfd files themselves have the toot toot sonic warrior and cosmic eternity in them for music.

anyway there are some adxs which I still havent dug up so stay tooned.

try watching the ending video though, cause I didn't find the ending ver of sonic boom on the game so far.

edit: never mind about those files I havent dug up, they are just sonic the fighters adx shit.

the videos have some annoying vomit interlacing (?) crap on them so I should send them to Grap3, he is the encoding genius here. He could prolly make better-then-already q movies, all I can do is to run them on sfd2mpg, compress the audio with lame preset standard, compress the video in xvid via ffdshow and then mux em together in an avi.

You're probably a lot better off with LocalH =P

Check if every frame has the interlacing crap on it. If not, there will probably be some pattern.

Also it COULD be some colorspace conversion. If you convert between YV12 and YUY2/RGB in progressive mode with an interlaced stream, it gets really messed up for some reason

(And thanks for ignoring my post on MPEG2 -_-)

I know jack shit about video formats and encoding so whatever dude.

anyways, if someone wants to check out the contents of Sonic CD, copy the *.CVM files from the ps2 disc to your hard drive, and using a hex editor, remove the first 6144 bytes of it (offset is 1800 in hex). This will remove the Cri ROFS Virtual File System header, and it will became a standard ISO file which you can then mount on DAEmon tools after you renamed the extension. From there you can process any afs or sfd file you want.

cvm2iso build 1
http://projects.sappharad.com/tools/cvm2iso.zip

Drag a CVM file onto the icon, it'll spit out an ISO you can mount in Daemon tools.
