MSN. What do you expect? Microsoft tries to emulate Apple with fancy graphics and fails miserably every time.

Sieg Heil. May great health bestow itself on our all knowing leader, George Bush

re-pub-li-can (n) - 1) A wealthy advocate of crony capitalism and supporter
of a totalitarian state benefiting the elite. 2) An inbred redneck or member of a
family with a history of inbreeding that typically falls for any false propaganda
claiming gun rights and lower taxes.

I think this suits George Bush better than Hail to the Chief. There's three meanings to the song. PM me if you think you can guess the three meanings. Hint: Two are fairly obvious (to gamers) and the third will take an astounding amount of digging.

Everytime I talk to a girl on MSN, they always say "hi ya", "hows u", "so wot u been up 2 lately". Every fucking time. It's like Marzipan but more shorthand.

Aren't they just custom emoticons? You can turn them of in options, on the messages tab.

Edit - while you're at it I'd advise you to turn off nudges and also blocking kelly might be a good idea.

Oh for love of God, SHUT THE FUCK UP. These Microsoft bashing posts of yours are fucking stupid. Why the fuck are you spewing this bullshit everytime Microsoft is mentioned? Those big letters are fucking custom emoticons. The only reason they can be made big like that is because of a 3rd party plug-in, and when people import them, they make the shortcut something like "Hi", so everytime the person types "hi", it'll show that huge ass emoticon instead of the text.. WHAT THE FUCK DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH APPLE?

EDIT: Sorry about the cursing. Got a bit carried away, but my point still remains.

Every single goddamn girl I speak to does that crap, so fucking annoying, which is why I switched to Trillian personally, less crap to put up with E.g. Nudges and winks.

Yeah that shits annoying but most of the people i talk to frequently don't use that kinda crap.

My girlfriend started to use that little glowing 'lol' icon, so when i was round her house I signed into her MSN and disabled it. That was months ago.

I don't mind when people use little animated "lol" pictures that change colours and are the exact same size as the text, but look at the size of that fucker up there.

Another nice feature Microsoft tried to put into MSN 7 was blocking of .EXE files and the like. Always looking out for the software developers, those great people at Microsoft. Thank goodness for the little patches in Messenger Plus and StuffPlug to get rid of their garbage.
At any rate, at least you can turn emoticons, nudges, winks, sounds, etc. off, if you want to, as I have.

Oh, you can disable nudges, winks and emoticons in MSN, incase anyone hadn't realised.

Old versions of it were pretty good IMO, but from v6 onwards (maybe v5 as well) it does feel very sluggish and bloated. The games are a nice touch, but that's about it. But those big emoticons / text thingies... yuck.

Anyway, I don't know why I'm complaining about it because I use Miranda IM at the moment. (I practically HAVE to use it on this laptop because MSN Messenger / Trillian slow it down a lot).

Yeah, I just love how MSN 7 and Hotmail permanently block EXE file transfers/attachments. They don't warn you that they could be unsafe, oh no, they permanently block/delete them with absolutely no option to the contrary. Could be sent from you to you, and they wouldn't budge. How nice of them.

Custom emoticons are good when they're emoticons, when they replace text they're just stupid. Makes me almost happy that Trillian doesn't support them.

One thing they could do, although it'd bloat the program even further, is allow you to block certain things from certain people. Like the people that use retarded emoticons, block reciept of them from that specific person.

I have no problems with MSN 7. I just talk to the right people. People who just talk, use one of the standard emoticons once in a while and occasionally send me some MP3 files or Trackmania Sunrise tracks.

It's not Microsoft's fault most of MSN's users are chavs.

It attracts Chavs moreso than any other IM client. I've only seen one Chav who uses AIM more than MSN to date (she changed school, so I assume she was in some small part of the UK where AIM is more commonly used).

The way I see it, chavs find client X a good client. Demi-chavs (=P) that are friends with the chavs get it to talk to them, demi-semi-chavs do similar, and so on so forth. Thus the majority of clients are either suited to geeks (like IRC) or suited to chavs (like MSN). I reckon developers should make an ad supported open source client (with as much ads as AIM or MSN) with both a geek oriented UI (allowing enabling and disabling a hell of a lot of the annoying features ) and a chav oriented UI (full of annoying features =P). What we have right now are the clients I've said above, and alternate clients that have advanced customisability of the UI, but have less (but not always few) features when it comes to the IM itself. Example: Trillian, aMSN.

Due to the lack of this, I'm currently stuck with a shitty client. (In Windows I'm stuck with the MSN client, in Linux I'm stuck with a OSS client lacking features as it's a reverse engineering feat). True, the geeks I know IRL use IRC more than MSN, but I don't want to always talk to other geeks =P.
