Alright, I'm calling you all out. To tell the truth, our IRC channel is very silent during the day. This has been a recent change in the past year. Before, it was a very active place with 20+ people. Anyway, this topic is to show some incentive to the non-IRC people. All of you people on the board who think nobody knows you, come to IRC! Everybody who has any form of power or respect on this board frequents IRC (or frequented). Anyway, everybody who frequents IRC and actually talks is well known on the board, so please, come into one of our four servers.

channel is #cult

Main: irc.sonic-cult.net

Alternate Servers for when CulTNet is down

My server: irc.perramala.com
UK server: tetraq.2y.net
And lamppost is currently having technical problems.
Perramala and Tetra are linked when up, so no need to worry about which server to get on.

Please join #cult on the CulTNet network and talk a lot, it'll really help revive some of the community.

Edit: As of 28/9/2005 the administration has decided that all IRC should only be on the main server, irc.sonic-cult.net. Perramala, Tetra, and Lamppost will be used when the official CulTNet server is down. Thank you.

nice idea.. Speaking of inactive channels .. Anyone who likes Ristar and the website I co-run Ristar Cluster can visit #ristar on the same servers.

The problem isn't really people just not coming to IRC, it's the stability. Cult and the IRC system has gone down so often and stayed down so long during those periods that people have just simply moved on. Once the place gets up and going again, if that ever happens, then I'm sure people will start to return.

Sieg Heil. May great health bestow itself on our all knowing leader, George Bush

re-pub-li-can (n) - 1) A wealthy advocate of crony capitalism and supporter
of a totalitarian state benefiting the elite. 2) An inbred redneck or member of a
family with a history of inbreeding that typically falls for any false propaganda
claiming gun rights and lower taxes.

I think this suits George Bush better than Hail to the Chief. There's three meanings to the song. PM me if you think you can guess the three meanings. Hint: Two are fairly obvious (to gamers) and the third will take an astounding amount of digging.

Heh, I used to frequent IRC about a year back, I might as well start going in there again, when I get a chance.

I'm not going to be back on IRC for quite a while, as it seems to be blocked by my Uni, in a rather bizzare way (in that instead of getting straight-faced "Connection refused" errors, I always get "Connection timed out" errors in mIRC). I've tried all the options under the Proxy tab in Options, and different ports, but haven't had any luck with it.

I'd go and speak to the helpdesk in the LRC (the Uni of Herts' fancy name for its library) but I haven't bothered to just yet. =P

EDIT: I think I what I should've said was OMG CGI:IRC CLIENT FOR #CULT PLZ. And yes, it does work for me, I went onto the Gens chatroom through it earlier =P

If you mean JWIRC or that other web-browser-based one (forget its name), I tried it, and it doesn't work (timeout errors). Maybe CGI:IRC just uses some funny way of getting around them, but I don't have time to look into it.

Besides, I keep thinking that there's been a CGI:IRC client installed on this site for CulT IRC access in the past... don't see why it shouldn't be reinstated.

I may be wrong, but last time I checked, CGI:IRC acts like a sort of proxy. You basically go through the server with CGI:IRC. I tried a Java IRC once and retained my regular hostname. It'll depend on the client of course, but I reckon the majority are like this.

Correct about the CGI:IRC proxy thing. This made it a royal pain in the ass because if you banned one CGI:IRC user you banned everyone. Even the clever tricks only worked for as long as their cookie length.

This Java applet sounds promising - more info?

Never mind, I managed to find a couple of CGI:IRC clients with the ability to go on any IRC server. w00t.

EDIT: mIRC working now. yay (HTTP-Tunnel =P)
