What about about the original (DINO) version? I got my copy through a mail-in offer in September 1995, and it mentioned nothing about DirectX, so I'm not sure what it means that this test failed.

When I try to run the fix, here's what happens:
CODE
SONICCD Path = "C:\WINDOWS\SONICCD\" according to SONIC.ini
"expand.exe" was found! Location: "C:\WINDOWS\system32\expand.exe"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"C:\WINDOWS\SONICCD\SONICCD.EXE" --- No Matches
"C:\WINDOWS\SONICCD\TITLE\BESTTIME\BESTTIME.DLL" --- No Matches
"C:\WINDOWS\SONICCD\TITLE\OPENING\OPENING.DLL" --- No Matches
"C:\WINDOWS\SONICCD\TITLE\SAVEDATA\SAVEDATA.DLL" --- No Matches
"C:\WINDOWS\SONICCD\TITLE\SOUNDTST\SOUNDTST.DLL" --- No Matches
"C:\WINDOWS\SONICCD\TITLE\STAGETST\STAGETST.DLL" --- No Matches
"C:\WINDOWS\SONICCD\TITLE\TA\TA.DLL" --- No Matches
"C:\WINDOWS\SONICCD\TITLE\VISUALMD\VISUALMD.DLL" --- No Matches
"C:\WINDOWS\SONICCD\LZXX.DLL" successfully overwritten.
"C:\WINDOWS\SONICCD\DINO2D.DLL" successfully overwritten.
"C:\WINDOWS\SONICCD\DMIX.DLL" successfully overwritten.
Intel RDX entries written to Registry

All those files clearly exist, so why is it returning "No Matches"?

Running the game itself still gives the "Your current video driver is not DCI compliant..." error. Is the DINO/DirectX issue one that can be resolved simply by getting a new soniccd.exe, or are there other files that set that attribute?

Maybe because the game most likely isn't installed to C:\Windows?

It is installed, and all the files are there.

If the ISO version is the only option, is there a way to upload the contents of s_score.dat into the save file?

EDIT: Also, any way to fix the full screen crash problem as of yet?

Really? You actually put it in the Windows folder on the C drive? Why?

That's because you haven't read the entire thread.

It's in C:/WINDOWS/SONICCD because that's the default location. Is there a better place for it?

Of course there is, who the fuck installs things into the fucking Windows folder. I have the game, and that really isn't the default install location. The default install location is C:\SEGA\SONICCD, so don't talk out of your ass. But, seeing as that really is where you put it, I don't have a damn clue what's wrong.

It installed to C:\SEGA\SONICCD on my compy, but that's the DirectX ver, it might install to another place on Dino

Stoko, the origional non-direct-x DINO OEM version came pre-installed in C:\Windows\SonicCD

The current patch fix is for the DirectX/DINO version only. If you want a fix for the OEM DINO version... I guess Korama would need a copy of it first.

Ah yes, the Dino version, you know I'd actually forgotten since his first post in the thread that that was the version he was talking about.

Not a clue, maybe our Sadistic friend could rip it for the masses?

"No matches" does not mean that the file was not found. Most of the patch programs that I've written so far do not operate on fixed file locations (that would be too easy :D) but search for certain byte sequences.
Since you obviously have the older OEM version of Sonic CD, the program doesn't find the sequences it is looking for.
I'd certainly like to get an ISO of the OEM DINO Sonic CD, too, by the way.

Anyway, new version is online!.
It has a my new LZXX.dll built-in, which finally does the decompression on its own and thus doesn't need expand.exe anymore. It also includes the registry settings and can create the sonic.ini file if it doesn't exist.

Concerning the full screen problem: as I said, Sonic CD manipulates the VGA directly to switch to full screen, and that just isn't allowed in XP (it's also questionable if it would still work with today's graphics cards).
Maybe it would be possible to get Sonic CD to use a DINO function, which in turn uses DirectDraw to enable fullscreen... but at the moment I don't have the time to research and try that.
So, the closest you can get to fullscreen for now, is to use the "run in 640 x 480" compatibility setting. :P

quick question, do you know what is causing the game to hang for 5~10 seconds when it starts or restarts a CDAudio track?

And someone said it slows down insanely when you enter water in Tidal Tempest.

Would it be possible for someone to send me the SETUP.EXE or whatever other files are necessary to install the DirectX version (over AIM, perhaps?) so that I can try it out that way?
