Anybody have the ISO?  :D

Now, I want to have the ISO (not for Genesis, already have that) but just for something to keep in my growing Sonic PC collection.

Dude, you can get a double pack of it and Sonic & Knux collection (the two greatest Sonic game evar) at Walmart for $5 (or your respective convenience cheapo market and currency per your country).

Not really. I haven't seen it being sold since the year after it was released.

That's hardly surprising, considering that Wal-Mart doesn't exist in Sweden - or in the UK for that matter - so I haven't seen it either (let alone in Game or a similar shop) =P

Weird that the game crashes for some of you when selecting New Game. Could anyone upload the SONICCD.EXE for me so that I can take a look at it?

Request granted.

Thanks, Stoko and Nemesis. :)

And thanks for your SONICCD.EXE, Rolken. It's exactly the same as mine (without the patch applied), so there must be another reason why the game crashes for you. Maybe it's related to some settings in the WINDOWS\sonic.ini file? You could try to move or rename it, then start Sonic CD and see what happens.

Furthermore, you could try the demo version of Sonic CD. It can be found at fileplanet or here.
My patch will work with it (although some files aren't found because they aren't present in the demo version) and it should be playable in Windows XP. Interestingly, the demo SONICCD.EXE doesn't seem to have any GDI leaks, by the way.

I just played through the entire game and it worked fine, except for the short freezes that occur when the game starts/stops playback of the audio CD tracks (which I can't hear on my system).
So, has anybody besides me had success with my patch and played Sonic CD in Windows XP?

I just tried it, It crashes when it tries to start a level, every level infact and not just on 'New Game' (im using the Debug Menu to load any level)

And I get
CD Device Error
The Specified file cannot be played on the specified MCI Device. The file may be corrupt, not in the correct format, or no file

also, joystick support isnt working for me :(

hmmmm... what about decompressing all of the cm_ files? and storing them decompressed instead of messing with funny homemade dll's

OK!

I fixed The problem that caused the CD Audio not to play.

PLease use this as your SONIC.INI

[Directory]
InstallPath=D:\SEGA\SONICCD\
ExePath=D:\SEGA\SONICCD\
Play=D:\SEGA\SONICCD
Install=D:\SEGA\SONICCD
Type=FULL
CD=12

[Audio]
QueueDepth=5

[DataFile]
FileName=S_SCORE.DAT

[System]
PentiumOrBetter=yes

[SOUND]
QUALITY=GOOD

[SECRET]
User=Debugger

Make Sure to change the PATHs to your dir. And MAKE Sure to have the proper cddrive set for CD=

My CDDRIVE is letter M. So it is 12

A=1
C=2
D=3
E=4
F=5
G=6
H=7
I=8
J=9
K=10
L=11
M=12

and so on.

Now, I believe I can get it running on my system (fix the crash) if someone can provide me with uncompressed versions of the CM_ files.
EDIT: never mind im doing it myself.

Also, I forgot to mention that to hear the CD Audio you must have an audio cable going from your CD Drive to your soundcard.
And for some reason, there is a BIG lag when the game starts playing a track so the Title music wont be in sync with the game.

Yes, that should fix that "CD Device Error".

Good idea, but it won't work. It's possible to read uncompressed files with the LZ32.DLL functions that Sonic CD uses. However, one of the functions that Sonic CD calls is "LZInit", and it always returns error code -1, which makes Sonic CD cancel any attempt to read the file.
So in order to realize your idea, you'd have to uncompress all of Sonic CD's compressed files (you can do that yourself, with expand.exe) PLUS patch all of Sonic CD's components which call LZInit.

I thought so, too. Newer PCs usually don't have that cable connection from drive to soundcard anymore, since Windows can read the CD digital audio data straight from the disk. However, the CD playback functions that older games like Sonic CD use don't seem to work with digital playback.

EDIT: I think you should at least write up directions to do this in one neat thing (I mean, the topic kind of goes all over the place) and have Reala put it up somewhere in the Green Egg.

You rock, SpinelSun! :)

I was just about to investigate the registry, because I wanted to check whether the official Intel RDX Samples which I installed changed something there.
I guess that those registry entries are also created by the real Sonic CD setup program, which I used to install the game on my system.

Anyway, you saved me some work there, SpinelSun. I'll modify my program so that it will create those registry entries.

One lingering nag: the framerate drops immensely when you enter water in Tidal Tempest (at least on my machine)... any idea why?

your computer sucks?

Idunno, the only problem I get is the big 5~10 second lag (the whole game stops) when it plays/restarts a CD Audio track.
