yeah this is a gay topic but i'm sitting here downloading a 3+ gig version of a movie i saw a thousand years ago on showtime in my stealth softporn watching days

I for one basically hate hollywood. like really, have they made anything decent in the past couple years? something semi-original i should say...I've got a few favorite genres.

Most people know I'm a fan of tokusatsu, but don't know what the fuck that means. toku is japanese live-action SFX movies. SFX being special effects, and the word commonly hidden in movies that people assume is SEX because they're retards. so like, Godzilla is tokusatsu. Godzilla is in the kaiju subgenre, or if you wanna get really technicaly daikaiju, which is giant monster. Gamera also falls into this. Other major categories of toku are stuff like size-changing heroes (ie ultraman), transforming heroes (ie kamen rider), teams of heroes (ie sentai, the stuff power rangers uses footage from), metal heroes (like b-fighter, stuff that beetleborgs used footage from), and now toho has a new set of series called sei shin (star gods or smth) that seems to be all about earthlings using suits and robots to fight aliens and shit that had wars above earth xxxxxx years ago. but yeah that's a fun genre.

Probably my other favorite genre is another massive collection of subgenres, the best names i've heard for a blanket term are psychotronic or just "trash" films. stuff like Troma films, B-movies scifi, Russ Meyer, and a lot of independant shit falls into this too. basically anything crazy that never gets theater play or blockbuster shelf. Troma is probably best know for toxic avenger, but they also distro-ed trey parker's CANNIBAL! the musical when no one else would, and make a ton of other cool shit too. They make low-budget films that don't care much about what rating they get, and I fucking love that. Kaufman can write a book too, let me tell you. B-movie scifi i don't have to go into much detail on because everyone knows what that is. RETURN OF THE ATTACK AT THE HAUNTED LAKE CAMP FROM PLANET X or whatever. the stuff that ended up on MST3K. it's great shit, often filled with unintentional humor. oh and all you need to know about Russ Meyer is that he fucking loved titties. Big ones. and he made hilarious movies he liked to call "cartoons". for fuck's sake his website still sells laserdisc copies of the movies, how awesome is that.

so yeah now everyone post about how you love big summer blockbusters with <actor x> in it so i can cry myself to sleep for being different

oh also i've done a couple movie reviews with funny captions in my DP blog if anyone's interested http://www.digitpress.com/forum/weblog.php?w=75

I'm into most anything. My favourite movies are probably "Clerks", "The Fly", "The Wicker Man", "Donnie Darko", "Mulholland Drive" and others.

I also like "The Lord of the Rings" and "Star Wars". And anything else made by Kevin Smith.

Heh, struck a nerve when you mentioned B-movies. I recently got big onto watching them for the cheap laughs they might bring, became a bit of a Bruce Campbell fan in the process, thanks to gems like Evil Dead, and Bubba Ho-tep(Some of his movies are really bad though).

Other then that, while I don't bother to limit myself to a specific Genre or style of movie, I've got a pretty big collection of Martial arts films, old Jackie Chan flicks, Bruce Lee's stuff, etc. (two new movies I'll shamelessly recommend are New Police Story, one of Jackie chans new AND good flicks, and Ong Bak).

In closing, if you haven't seen Fight Club and Pulp Fiction, you should be shot >.>

If you like Bruce's stuff, go see The Man With The Screaming Brain immediately. Also consider checking out the last couple Evil Dead games.

I like going deep, so stuff like The Butterfly Effect and Frequency are pretty cool to watch. Then those such as Dragonfly, Donnie Darko, etc...

Then you have the kickass action movies. If you have never seen Kill Bill (1 or 2), then I command you to do so now. One of the best movies ever. I liked Star Wars, but only a few of the new ones are actually good. It's a matter of preference, really.

I heard the Interpreter was supposed to be good, but I'm not too sure. I'd rent it or something (or get it off the internet, dur).

I'm pretty much into any movie that qualifies as comedy, so long as it has neither Travolta or Vaughn in it, and doesn't have a Smash Mouth song as part of the soundtrack.

I can't really tell if I prefer American comedy or British comedy; I think for movies, American comedy works best, but for TV shows, British, no doubt about it.

Off the top of my head, the last few films I was really impressed with were 'Ichi The Killer', 'Amadeus' and 'Saw' (the two guys stuck in the bathroom scene struck chords for me as one of those point-and-click games scenes).

I can enjoy pretty much anything though.

I'm usually predisposed to see hiper-violence, gore, comedy movies. And if you mix all that you have Kill Bill. Yes, comedy. It's a good movie (it's still far from being one of the best).

Vin Diesel rules by the way.

Near enough anything, as long as it has a decent storyline and some comedy parts, favourite film of mine I'd say would be Donnie Darko.
Shaun of the dead is damn good too.

I forgot to add that I hate movies from people who desperately try to look cool. Tarantino is one of those people. Kill Bill has to be one of the biggest crocks of shit to be made a movie in the last decade. Along with Pulp Fiction.

Except Pulp Fiction has Samuel L. Jackson.

I think he tried to be fun, not to look cool. I'm serious. Hella damnit, go see the trailer of Kill Bill vol2.

People would argue about Spaceballs being the best ever, but IMO its overrated and some jokes are pretty cheesy. Monty Pythons Holy Grail is much much better.

Even so, my absolute fave is Snatch. But you have to be an european to understand that movie.

That Depp movie where he was a schyzophreniac killer and his other half threated to kill him cause he stole his writings was also pretty fucking sweet.

Braindead is also a top movie.

The best movie I ever saw has to be 'Killer Tomatoes Eat French'. The worst one is 'Scorpion King'. That movie is all about fighting, the story doesn't matter at all. There's this one point in the movie where they are burried in the sand and a second later they magically got out. No explanation or anything on how they got away.

The first 2 Killer Tomatoes films were AWESOME. Spaceballs also rocks muchly, as does most comedy films.

Other than that, Bond films are always watchable, and sci-fi like the Trek films, the Wars films, and (hopefully, still yet to see it. From the sound of it it's gonna own) Serenity.

EDIT: How could I forget FF7:AC? Other CG films like Ice Age, Toy Story 1 & 2, and Finding Nemo also were good (hell, Pixar as a WHOLE rocks).

Snatch.
Any Kevin Smith movie. Especially Dogma.

I like action and comedy movies. The only sci-fi movies I've ever excepted so far were the Star Wars Series. But then again, I've never seen that much sci-fi... I could also go for 3D and cartoon animated films. Disney's earlier pieces (up to about The Emperor's New Groove, possibly one of their best) were nice, but I don't even want to get started with all their crappy straight-to-video "sequels", and such. Actually, it's the straight-to-video movies of theirs that suck- the ones in the theaters are always pretty good, these days. I was never really thrilled by horror movies, though. They advertise the damn things all wrong, getting you not to see it with all their cheesy gimmicks. They never really show any of the good stuff on TV... :\ Spiderman 2 kicked the original's arse, though. And Shrek was pretty good. (I never got to see the sequel yet.)

Currently, I still really want to see Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Whear-Rabbit, and Corpse Bride, if it's still out. One thing I really might try to stay away from in the future is buying DVD's, unless they happen to be full Seasons of TV shows like Ren & Stimpy, or something I am really into. I think they're just becoming a waste of money to me, because I never watch them unless they come on TV, which basically defeats the whole purpose... =p
