This is an area that Sega have let me down twice in. When I first saw Sonic Heroes, from the screenshots I thought "Does that mean there's 3-player co-op!?". Sadly, no. Then again with Shadow the Hedgehog, I saw characters following him in the videos and thought the same thing.

And let's face it. Other than possibly SA2:B, the other Sonic multiplayer games of this generation (SA2 and SH) haven't been very good, and IMO, the one in Heroes took more time to program. In fact, let's weigh how much it would take for their multiplayer mode against a co-op mode for Heroes.

For creating its current 2p mode:

• New music was made
• Goals and level starts have to be changed
• Engine has to be tweaked for split screen. Possibly moreso for the PS2 (theory, not criticism)
• In terms of bobsled, they had to do a LOT. Didn't they create original levels for that?

For creating some sort of co-op mode:

• Program some way of manually attaching to flying characters
• Program some way of manually attaching to power characters
• New way to handle the camera (which they did in the current 2p mode)

Maybe I just suck at thinking, but it doesn't sound too far fetched to me. If anything, they could have been lazy and given Tails his SA moves and Knuckles his SA2 moves for when they're on their own. I'd still want it. Hell even if they decided "We'll only give you 2-player co-op and no one can play the flying character," it's still be fucking awesome.

I am probably one of the most anti-social shits on this board, yet I want co-op. Did Sega confuse their target audiance with people who literally avoid human contact 100% of the time? I may not have a life, but I sure as hell have friends, and *gasp* siblings. I mean don't get me wrong, I like playing against my friends, but if you can't make a good VS mode then I say make a simple co-op mode.

Ever played San Andreas? There are SO many things you can't do in that 2 player mode, but it's great. When you're outside a mission and just feel like putting some cheats on and blowing shit up, why not do it with a friend? How much was even programmed for that 2p mode? Simply another camera, a simple in-car shooting system, and a few restrictions.

There was Tails in Sonic Adventure, but it was pretty sloppy. They didn't even bother to list it as a "2-Player Mode" on the back of SADX. XD

Ever since Sonic Adventure came out, I've dreamed of racing through stages with a buddy. Even an online co-op mode where you have to rely on each other to complete objectives would be really cool in my opinion.

I've always wanted co-op. In nearly every game I've played since Doom (I used to LOVE co-op on that), I've always wondered how a co-op would work with whatever I'm playing. That's one of the reasons we're building 2 player single pak co-op into TG for the whole damn game. It'll take ages, but it'll be SO worth it.

Well yeah, I was mostly talking about next gen games. Unless you guys want to somehow get the "Retro Sonic" source and play around with it. Hell that's not a bad idea, port it to Xbox will ya =P

I enjoyed Chaotix, but personally I prefer the Tails-flying-Sonic type of game than the ring binding. IMO, the ring binding is kinda linear in comparison.

Isn't there co-op in Advance 3? I never actually tried it myself, but I'm pretty sure I heard about it beforehand.

Had Sonic & tails also been in Chaotix, AND if Chaotix were a little longer/larger (or if they at least used that crazy inverted loop shit from the 1 minute level in Crackers), it would have ruled even more... but as it stands, Chaotix still wins.

"Electoria" sounds better in Crackers than in Chaotix, though, I'll at least admit that (it's the music from Techno Tower)

I simply don't think that coop fits in the sonic style of gameplay. The best example of where they did coop wasnt in the 3d game but in the advance series. Specificly sonic advance 3 had the best coop support but even then you didnt feel that you really were working together to get accross levels. People could easily get across the levels and to the same areas in the levels that they could get to without a partner. I just cant imagine a good way for them to do it while keeping there original speedy gameplay.

Well personally, I had great fun with Sonic 3 & Knuckles. It was great being flown places and flying my friends places. Whenever I played with Tails I always lost the fast gameplay due to my curiosity, so it was the same thing really.

My idea was really with Sonic Heroes. I liked the game, but if they're going to make a sequel then I'd like it to have co-op. And in terms of story, preferably be a bit less kiddy and more like SA2.

As I said, give them some of their SA and/or SA2 mechanics back (I think they were all faster in SA, so speed from there), and drop a few of the characters (Team Rose and Omega...). Then - as with Sonic 3 and Sonic Adventure - you necessarily aren't relying on the characters to be able to fly/climb/glide (might be good if it's required for 100% completion though). IMO, It's a hell of a lot better than in Heroes where Rouge's kicking is apparantly not worth using.
