The CGM ripper looks pretty spiffy, frankly. Nice tool overall.

Oh yeah don't freak out when you'll open the model, I left everything intact, be sure to use separate command (Wings3d) to remove the big ass ball around ark (skybox), and inside the ark is the observe room

The reason that the ripper doesn't find anything in the Gamecube version is simple:

Gamecube's data is in the Motorola format. Dreamcast's data is in Intel format

Different Endians/byte ordering so the ripper can't detect the verteces ... which are actually written backwards

SEGA's tricky when it comes to formats. They didn't WRITE a format, they COMPILED it... so let me explain why it's harder to "crack" it compared to anything else out there:

typedef struct VERTEX {
float x, y, z;
} VERTEX;

typedef struct MODEL {
int vertex_total;
VERTEX *vertex_buffer; //The trick, notice the pointer
} MODEL;

VERTEX vtest{ //The vertex buffer
0,0,0,
-1,1,1
...
};

MODEL mtest{ //The model which groups it all with pointers
4,
vtest
};

When that compiles - the pointer to the vertex data will be a pointer to the RAM location of the vertex data... not the file location

So to rip a model, the program needs to do a bunch of checks to verify the data and to check if it's actual verteces and not junk

The ripper has a flaw in that it can only find models with the scale matrix being 1,1,1
Why I did this is because the majority of SEGA models are scaled beforehand... and not using matrices =/

Forgot about ark again?

..Smart one, scroll up until you find the post made on Oct 31 2005.

Sanik, some interesting information, really. Tad to the complicated side, but its also understandable. Though, would it ever be possible to correct such an error, or develop something to fix it?

and divx2k30; While I was rummeging through files, I noticed something in the boss related files. They all come with the level that boss was situated in, down to its last detail, including the final ark one. This actually leads me to ask, if its possible for us to find actual levels, seeing as they are built the same, but probably stored incorrectly, if I'm right. Its something to look into =P

I've just got back on the computer a few days ago "really."

But Lightning and I have joined "forces" ... hehe ... in writing a program that handles SA2 models

The first problem I had was that the SA2 model format was way superior (I ain't kidding) compared to the formats out there

To solve this, we'll be working on a model viewer first to view the scene instead of exporting it

Hopefully when it's all done, we'll have correct texturing, animation, and object loading using joints

Give us a bunch of months first to do this though ^_^

Kind of redundant, wouldn't you think =P

I'll be able to work on this as soon as I get this school project of mine finished... Which, ironically enough, is a program that will compress .PRS files properly.
