Well well well... I haven't posted here in quite a while. In case you didn't already know, I had lost interest and motivation in hacking, but recently regained it. So, now I'm going to show you what I've done in the past 24-48 hours in my hack:

ソニック:ザ・ロスト・ランド・2
(SONIC: THE LOST LAND 2)

Anyway, I just thought I'd post what I've done so far, since I got back into hacking it.

  • Palette change in ARZ
  • Added ghosts in CNZ (just part of the level art)
  • Removed Tornado from SCZ, and extended the level size array.
  • Removed Tornado from the beginning of WFZ, and made Sonic start on extended flooring.
  • Changed ASCII font, and level select background

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up. Now for some screenshots...

Level Select
New level select background and ASCII font. (Thanks to OrdosAlpha for the CORRECT offset.)

ARZ Main Palette
Ancient Amazon Zone -Main Palette-

ARZ Underwater Palette
Ancient Amazon Zone -Underwater Palette-

Ghost Art in CNZ
Ghosts added to the level art in CNZ.

SCZ
No more Tornado in Stormy Skies Zone. (At least not on screen) Level size array modified, and extra art added.

I'm currently uploading the current build. Bear in mind it's quite buggy, and incomplete, but at least it works...

I'll be uploading 2 versions. MP3 support, and NON MP3...

Okay, I finally have them uploaded, and as far as I know, the checksums are okay...

To download the MP3 supported version, click here. Filesize: 65.6MB

To download the NON-MP3 supported version, click here. Filesize: 1.1MB

Enjoy!

OK, the timer's screwed, it's countin' down the minutes as seconds, 10 seconds = dead.

The checksum wasn't OK, I had to fix it.

The HUD was messed up on certain zones - I take it this is one of the bugs?

The character start points need to be adjusted for several zones also, the character drops down onto the ground - I guess that's another of those bugs?

I could say more if it wasn't for the timer cock-up.

And the level selct text looks fine in-game.

Good on ya, Ordos... post the same thing everywhere. Okay... 2 options...

2 options for you then...

1. If you're using Kega, DON'T... it doesn't like the new coded timer.
2. If you're using Gens Plus, then I may have uploaded the wrong file. Instead, download one of my IPS patches.

I've solved the problem of the screwed up timer, and now have the code that'll work in both Gens and Kega. I've altered the code to compare words instead of bytes, and changed a couple of values as well to make it work perfectly.

CODE
//check if time is 0:00 before updating (for starposts)
0C380000FE2266140C380000FE24660C
//copy 9 to mins, 59 to secs, if the above is true
31FC003CFE2431FC000AFE22

//restarts the seconds at 59 after reaching 00
0C380000FE2531FC003BFE254EF900040E18
now becomes:
CODE
//check if time is 0:00 before updating (for starposts)
0C780000FE2266140C780000FE24660C
//copy 9 to mins, 59 to secs, if the above is true
31FC3C3CFE2431FC0009FE22

//restarts the seconds at 59 after reaching 00
0C780000FE2431FC3C3CFE244EF900040E18

There isn't a great deal of difference, but I'll update my posts on all forums where this info is available. Gens (and Gens+) must be more forgiving of slight errors in code. In future, I'll try and test my hack/code on both emulators.

Hope this sorts things out, Shadowfire!

Other than being very similar other hacks... Like Dirty Desert is identical to Sonic 2 Delta's Dust hill zone... It's a good hack... Keep up the good work...

Excellent. What gave you the clue as to what was wrong?

I took a savestate in Kega, and looked at the address for the seconds value. The value at offset $01229C was 003C, which set the seconds to 00 and milliseconds to 3C - meaning that the time was always initiated to start on 00 seconds (God knows why Gens didn't pick this up!).

The same goes for the bit of code that was supposed to reset the seconds to 59 after reaching 00. Changing the values to be set at $01229C to 3C3C sorted the problem out. I also made a couple of other tweaks to ensure the compares the code was doing worked without fail.

Okay... I got Kega Fusion (Love it too!), and managed to fix the timer, so it now works properly. However, the art is still fucked up...

If anyone can help me put this stuff into a CLEAN ROM, I'd appreciate it. If not, then I guess it will never be playable on real hardware... and Gens/Gens Plus will be the only emulator to run it properly.

This is a good hack, I like the idea with the lightning. I'm currently making a hack where i'm porting different pallets from different games to Sonic 2, right now i'm trying to port the background of the "lightning level" of Vectorman to Sonic 2. I like where this hack is going, good luck with Kega issues, I might ask SteveSnake about those issues.

Actually, the server is fine. It's just that RHS seems to have made a little error with his ns data.

Name servers listed in order:
ns1.elementalhoasting.net (unable to validate IP)
ns2.elementalhoasting.net (unable to validate IP)

There's not supposed to be an "a" in hosting. I sent him an email, telling him what the error was, and to log into his registrar, but I've not received a response. He didn't come online last night either...

Nice try changing the debug and all emeralds codes on me, and I notice that I still can't use Super Sonic. Time to hook onto the vblank and stuff some values in RAM =P

Also, one big problem for me - none of the text has any type of outline or shadow on it. This makes it much harder to read on a stock Genesis.

I changed the code values because I felt like it =P

I'll be fixing that, since I'm starting from scratch.
