If it's possible to use Knuckles' palette without fucking up the colours of other sprites in the game, then how come the alternate palette fix version still has things that should be blue coloured red?

Why not simply leave Sonic's palette intact, and just edit the Knuckles sprites to take advantage of the reds and yellow that already exist? It doesn't look so bad:
IPB Image
You could just lighten the reds to make him look a little more like he's supposed to, but leaving the blues intact will guarantee that nothing will be fucked up. The only problem is the socks. You may have to change one of the blues to green as mentioned in another post.

I believe that's exactly what stealth did in his first release, with yellow socks rather than blue (S3 style).

Yeah, that is what he did. The link to Stealth's version was broken when I tried it, so I had only played the "fixed" version. It would have made a little more sense to have simply edited the reds in Sonic's palette to match those of Knuckles' palette than to completely overwrite Sonic's with Knuckles'.

To anyone that wants the normal pallet, why not do something about it? Just hack in the normal Knuckles pallet. It's not that hard. That's what I did. It doesn't screw up ANY of the game, seriously. All it is is darkening and lightening some of the colors. The only thing you need to change completely is one of the blues. You have to change it to a green.
IPB Image

I wish I could say the same about it not being hard, but I wouldn't even know the first thing about it. I really wish I could recreate what you did with his colors.

Anyone know of anyplace to learn about where those colors are located or do you think you could upload your edit, Oshtoby?

You could just use your standard palette editing program. I suggest Chao-Sax Pal, but you could use any editor of choice.

Utilities are at the SSRG.

Has anyone gotten this to run on a Tototek cart? I keep getting the 'red screen of death' that's usually caused by a bad chacksum, and I can't seem to find a program that can repair it.

UCON64 can repair the checksum on ROMs you can get that here then in the command prompt run ucon64 -chk [romname] it should fix it, there is a front end for ucon64 too that will make it easier

I've tried Ucon64. Though the program says that the checksum is fixed, it still won't run on the Genesis.

I had the Red screen of death with the version I got from Oshtoboy. I merely went into Gens's option menu and told it to autofix the checksum and it worked. Maybe it's just a glitch in Ucon64 then.

As I said in your PM, you might need to pad the ROM to a power-of-two - I don't know how the Tototek cart handles odd ROM sizes, but my SMD doesn't seem to give a shit about the ROM size as long as it's <16Mb. Here's the program I use. It's commandline, which makes it great for creating a build workflow when coding. All you do is stick it in with the rest of your commandline tools (c:\windows\command or c:\windows\system32 unless you've modified your path to add a separate directory for addon CLI tools). Then, cd to the directory that contains the ROM you wish to pad, and do rompad <filename> 0 0. Or, if you want it to look like it came from a mask ROM cart, replace the first 0 with 255, this will pad the ROM with $FF's.

I kind of decided to post my question here as well so that if a solution was reached, others could see it without having to inquire about it themselves.

Anyway, Padding the rom worked wonderfully. Thank you!
I guess the Tototek carts are just picky about the size of the rom.

Wow, I'm honored. =P Oh, and just for convenience, you don't need any arguments but the filename if you're using $00, meaning you can just drag the file onto it in Windows too.

Of course, being that it's Sonic the Hedgehog and not Sonic the Hedgehog 2 or after, Super Knuckles is like "Super" Sonic in Sonic CD. It's just the invincibility shield and I think the super sneakers (I forget if he was faster).

Actually, the true Super Knuckles physics are slightly different to speed shoes + invincibility, especially in terms of braking. Stealth's Super Knuckles seems to have the correct physics (in other words, it seems to control identically to KiS2), so it's "real" Super Knuckles with invincibility stars instead of a pallet rotation.
