Less than a week ago, I bought a Nintendo DS at Electronics Boutique. Half an hour later, I arrive home, turn the thing on, and...the top screen's dead. Lovely. So, I drive aaaaaalllll the way back and exchange it. The new one works just fine. However, about an hour into Super Mario 64, I notice a bright blue dead pixel on the left side of the bottom screen. LOVELY. According to Nintendo's FAQ, this is "normal," should not be considered a "defect," and will not get worse. Whatever. It's on the far left, outside of the GBA screen area, so it's not too noticeable. A few days later (today), I was playing Castlevania for a few hours, and all of a sudden a bright green pixel appeared out of nowhere on the top screen, about an inch from the right side. HOORAY! The problem's not getting worse!

So, apparently, I'm not meant to have a DS or something.

Anyone know if EB will let me return this thing over two dead pixels? What are the chances of more appearing? Am I blowing this out of proportion? It kinda sucks having these permanent brightly-colored spots staring back at me from my brand-new $130 toy.

Throw it off a high place and send it to Nintendo, they'll replace it.

You're not alone on the dead pixel syndrome front. My mates DS also had a dead pixel, but on the right side of the bottom screen. He called up UK customer services and was told the same thing, it was perfectly normal. Three weeks later, the screen had developed a bad case of pixel acne, and then died. He called up Nintendo again, and was told to send it to them, the DS was replaced free of charge.

I have one dead pixel on my bottom screen, but it's almost invisible. I don't think I'm going to return it.

And maybe your problem isn't getting worse. You just didn't notice the other dead pixel until now.

See the "Nintendo > *" topic in EE to see how painlessly quick and easy it is to get a replacement DS. ;)

I doubt that. I thoroughly examined both screens both after I got it and after the first dead pixel appeared. They're kinda bright and kinda hard to miss.

Anyway, it's great that Nintendo has acknowledged the problem and is willing to fix it for free, regardless of how serious it is. That kind of customer service is exceedingly rare nowadays, and certain other companies should wake up and take notice if they want to keep their customers (though Sony, and Mr. "it's not defective, it's designed that way SHUT UP" Kutaragi in particular, could care less as long as they're making a profit).

Logicially, yes. But both have come to mean the same thing, like flammable and inflammable.

But inflammable and flammable do actually mean the same thing. It's not using the Latin "negative" prefix -in, it's the "intensive" one...

True. Alright, that was an erronous example. Let me just say, then, that "could care less" has become a colloquialism, a saying, where its actual meaning has now been rendered moot.

My DS is fine. Only problem I had was that I got stolen, but the idiot who stole it was stupid enough to keep it. Kicked his ass and got it back, though the stylus was missing afterward.

But yeah, I'd call up Nintendo and get a new one, simply because you can.

By the way, how does a single bad pixel make the whole damn thing "defective"?
