So does that mean the instructions FOR the debug mode are still in the game, and accessible through GS/PAR?

I don't think so, I think it means that they took it out to stop people getting insane scores, but you can still do so though GS codes

Hmm....well, in the event that there IS still some debug data there, I would mess around with the sound test. I remember once going in there and loading random noises in order to attempt to load codes once. The only one I ever stumbled across was a code that changed the grade of the last course i ran into an A. At least, thats what i assumed it was, since the last course I had run was the only one I hadn't recieved an A on. Of course, I never wrote anything I had tried down, so the code was lost. In any case, I would try messing around there.

Yes. If we can find the one byte to change to enable debug mode, we will have it. I just wish I knew something about Saturn debugging.

4 hours, and all I managed to do was get Elliot into Spring Valley, and figure out how to hide the HUD.
Debug mode refused to let me find it, I tried pretty much all of the memory it uses for storing common values, like time, how many chips you have, etc.

So I've given up, as I dont know nor do I intend to learn SH2 assembly.

To hide the HUD, find the value for the time in memory. The value for HUD visibility is 0x11 bytes after this. 01 is hidden, 00 is visible. I dont own a Gameshark for Saturn, but the code for this MIGHT be:
060FFC23 0001
If you're running NiGHTS in GiriGiri, this value is stored at 01ACFC43. (And time would be at 01ACFC32)

That's all I've got. I wish someone luck trying to disassemble this thing.

Regarding the debug mode, i had always been under the impression that it was only functional in the japanese version.

wha? I have a Action Replay cart (plays imports wooo!) and both Pal and Japanese NiGHTS and they both run from the same game save so dunno if there is any differences in the games.
If you would like me to test anything out let me know what I need to do etc.

I've got a gameshark cart thing and I'd try out some codes but the problem is the cartridge input slot is so worn out that it's almost impossible to get it to work. You have to wiggle it for like a half and hour turning the system off and on to check it and if you get it just right it will work. It's a real pain in the ass, but I guess that's what happens when you use third-party cartridges in the slot.

My Saturn's cart slot is the same way... I always manage to get the gameshark to work but like NOT pushing it into the connector fully.

Hmm, does anyone have the cable and software to do GS/PAR linking on the computer? that could possibly be a big help
