Regarding the debug mode, i had always been under the impression that it was only functional in the japanese version. I've seen screenshots from the inprogress version of the game and i've heard so much bullcorn about the cheat WORKING on the US version too. As i only have a PAL saturn but every version in friggin living existance of the games (im even sad enough to buy the different sized boxes in the same region version), i was about to shell out for a white saturn to see if this was true. But no, its very true what you guys have said, pressing certain buttons takes you to other screens, the sonicteam logo is video and the 'collect 50 blue chips and double JUMP' thing is bullshit. Years ago when i first heard of that cheat i must have spent nigh on MONTHS trying to get it to work. But it's utter crap.
Oh and there -was- a beta version flying around as Naka said it was fully 3d (ie) non linear 3d flightpaths for NiGHTS. But they removed it because it was too disorientating apparently -_-; (why god why, *cough MARIO64*!!!!) The beta version had weird stuff in it like for example in Puffys stage, the dining table, it used to have tall green chairs on either side, but they removed them for the final version. They also took out a LOT of the trees. Man i sound like a hippy.
A beta copy of the game is the ONLY thing i don't have. It indeed does drive me crazy, yup.

It's completely possible that that the code that allows free range movement can be activated by the debug.

XD oh GOD don't say THAT i'll cry and start trying to break into Sega HQ T_T
-again-
*drools anyway*

Yeah it's not imposssible, i mean it's not as if you can't walk about in full 3d with claris and elliot. The only thing that would be weird is hitting the edge of the dream in midair. But then NiGHTS would probably do the 'get thrown 50 miles thing' as well :/ One thing i WISH they'd gotten rid of was the STUPID arrow that always lied about where the chips and palace were, it just got in the way and looked crap. HAD they used some sort of smaller (think Knuckles emerald searching) type hunting thing it would have been a lot better.

I hope it's still there (Trippy don't read the next line) because I learned from my connections up in SOA that the saturn revision library was destroyed based on their need for storage space. ;_;

*SHRIEK*
T_T omfgggggg. (ok so i read)(damn you) But is that just at SOA or SOJ as well? Man that's insane. Why not just make more friggin storage space *beats head into desk* Still... wouldn't they technicaly NEED all their old stuff for future games. Not saying there's a sequal but i certainly wouldn't throw that stuff out on the trash. :crying:

Sega destroyed their old saturn shit... I swear to god I read that and got nauseaus... Christ, even Sonic X-Treme stuff could have potentially rested there.... god damn...... I'm sorry, but every day I get more and more disgusted with Sega... video games in general. I just want to go back to 1994 -.-;

I say we use the freedom of information act against them XD Even though it's supposed to be used against just government companies. God would that be satisfying.

And yes, I spent hours on end trying to get the damned code to work also.

13,JUN.1996

Set that date.
Then try the Abracadabra code from there if nothing happens when you set the date.
I found that right under the Debug data. Might it mean something?

*edit*
This seems to have something to do with the "prefinal" (text found saying prefinal by date)
This makes me think that the remains of the debug is still there.

[9-6] The Cheat Code -- Doesn't Exist

Proper cred to Ramala:

The Debug Mode was included on pre-release eproms (yes, he means Gold CD's, they're
just a tad confused over there sometimes) of NiGHTS sent to
magazines (I work for GameFan at the moment). It was accessed at the title
screen by pressing diagnoal up/left, L & R shoulder buttons, and X,
Y and Z all at the same time. A small menu appeared in the top right left
hand corner of the screen with several options. As far as I can remember
they were:

1. Remove all data from screen - all numbers, links, info is removed from
screen. NiGHTS flies clean!
2. Remove time - No time limit. When the timer reaches zero it goes back
up. This enabled me to get a 999 link on Frozen Bell course 1 (cheating
of course, but hey it looks cool). Also the alarm clock never comes for
Eliot or Claris.
3. Instant course complete - when flying round a course, by tapping x or
y you can fly into NiGHTS temple without collecting the ideya first. Ie.
You can do all four courses in four seconds just by tapping X. This is
good for practicing against the bosses. 4. Access all dreams instantly.
No need to get a C first.

Sega confirmed that they took it out, so no-one could cheat and get
false scores or link counts. I agree with them. (But they can still use Game
Shark/PAR codes, which I will not print for that reason)

Found on a GameFaq's FAQ, probably already known, but worth mentioning nonetheless
